1990
One of the most memorable WSM competitions ever. With the debut of the hulking OD Wilson and the final year of Jon Pall Sigmarsson, 1990 would become one of the fiercest contests ever in World's Strongest Man.
1991
Iceland's giant, Jon Pall, was finally retired, but in his place was a new man, Magnus Ver Mangusson. Magnus hopes to live up the the great viking's legacy. A sad back injury pained OD for much of this competition.
1992
1992 was the site of one of the most intense and close competitions in history. Jamie Reeves, Magnus Ver Magnusson, Ted Van De Parre and Gerrit Badenhorst vie to take home the title. Magnus has a bit of a personal motivation here, as it is being held in his home of Iceland. |
1993
This World's Strongest Man was one of the most star-filled of them all, with appearances from Gary Taylor, Magnus Ver Magnusson, Riku Kiri and Manfred Hoerbl.
1994
The 1994 Worlds Strongest Man was the first to feature the Heats, which would allow for more competitors to have a chance in making it into the finals. |
1995
The 1995 competition kicked off a strongman rivalry that would be raged between the viking Magnus Ver Magnusson and the massive Gerrit Badenhorst.
1996
1996 was a very important year for Magnus Ver Magnusson. This competition would be historic for him if he could win it. But this would not be an easy task as Badenhorst and Riku Kiri were looking in good enough shape to challenge the mighty viking.
1997
A new strongman would make his way to Worlds Strongest man, with Jouko Ahola of Finland making a big impression on all of the competitors. But Flemming Rasmusson was looking stronger than he had ever been before, and was quickly becoming a strong competitor for the title.
1998
Jouko Ahola was looking strong and fast in the 1998 World's Strongest Man. But despite this the steadily rising might of Magnus Samuelson was a definite factor. Another thing the 1998 contest was infamous for was injuries. The contest was unfortunately plagued by them, with a great possibility that they may have affected the results.
1999
The final World's Strongest Man of the century would be contested in 1999. Svend Karlsen, Jouko Ahola, Magnus Samuelson, Hugo Girard and Janne Virtanen would all seem to have a shot at the title.
